its been a long while since i had fun like that night, i just had to point that out. impromptu gatherings are the ones that will go down in history as the nights we won't forget. so many many thanks to those who made that night possible.

now, i have been toying around with my words. as we all do at certain points of time. and i suddenly thought of this word, IndieMind. this word that is made up of two words could make a really good magazine title. a periodic of some sort. where i can feature random movies and music that are independant. i could feature artists like roisin murphy (as pictured above) and other people. fashion labels and prominient figures in whatever is controversial. i can too take contributions from the people around me. now, i know this is not an original idea of sorts, but its an idea! and what better way to start the ball rolling then on these pages.

so do look out for either a monthly or weekly periodic, depending on my finds that is. comments and contributing ideas are welcomed. tag if interested.

and by the way sam, that was the picture i thought i would feature in your blog post done by me. but i guess i won't be using it on your blog cos its already on my blog. heh.

two movies of glaring genres have been digested by me. or rather, i have consumed two rather delectable movies. with thanks in place to the lovelies who have gotten me those two movies. remember how in school you had a subject called social studies where you studied how one country got to be that country of today? then of course during the exams you'd be tested on indirect questions where you'd have to answer with certain remembered skills. the skills being, to infer, compare and contrast and what not. i certainly remember doing those. anyway my point of this entry is attempt the compare and contrast skill.

so let's start. the first movie i watched was lucky number slevin. cast includes, josh hartnett, lucy liu and bruce willis. now i've never enjoyed a mafia-esque movie this much. though it being a movie about mafias in new york, it has a very strong sense of quirk and wit in it. but like all mafia movies, it has the gunshots, the killings and the sob stories. this being, josh hartnett aka slevin's, quest to avenge his father's wrongful killing due to a bet on horses gone awry. but this is no ordinary kid-seeks-revenge movie. of course by the first minute of the movie you would have guessed that the purpose of the movie would be to avenge. but how slevin goes about doing it gives a whole new spectrum to the term, getting even. and i'd have to say, bruce willis, gave an ice-cold performance worth praising for. he helps slevin get even. now you ask, how does lucy liu fit into this movie? well, lucy liu plays lindsey, this really bubbly girl who pops into slevin's life almost unexpectedly. now i must say, lucy liu did well in this role. seeing as to how this role does not require her to fight, which is refreshing. she's kinda an interesting character that you would want to see develop in the movie. at the end, twists and turns of the movie would leave you gaping.

the second movie i watched was the squid and the whale. this movie sets itself in 1986 new york city. where a family is going through an internal crisis. its cast, jeff daniels, laura liney and anna paquin. just to name the few familiar faces. this tastefully done movie speaks about the human struggle with divorce and how each individual copes with such a crisis. yes, the acting is very credible but the storyline does not follow through. at the end, it leaves you asking, what happens? do the family get back together? once again, the kids stole the thunder in this movie. esp, the two sons, frank and walt. both dealt with the divorce in ways unconventional. for walt, it was to steal lyrics from a pink floyd song and play it as his own. while for frank, it is to masturabate and spread semen over his locker and library. anna paquin does quite well in this movie too. she plays the young seducing writer, jeff daniel's student, who writes about her cunt and is sort of the catalyst of the movie. yes the movie is kind of hard to swallow, but at the end, after the movie ends and you sit and think about it, it kinda rings in your mind. after that ringing subsides, you get the whole idea of the movie.

in conclusion, both movies are very well done movies, the former being more well done cos of its budges whilst the latter a tad bit raw. but this two movies serves up for good perfomances from the actors. i would also say, this two movies has huge amount of wit and quirk poured into it. i really liked both movies but if i would have to choose one, i would choose the squid and the whale for the sole reason that it is a very raw and true movie about human struggle. you would only see lucky number slevin for its smooth storyline and for the eye candy namely, josh hartnett (whom you get to see clad only in a towel at the beginning of the movie) and lucy liu. while the squid and the whale leaves a lingering kind of feeling in you, lucky number slevin does not. once again this two movies has glaring differences.

would it not be nice to don a mask and walk around in it forever? in this case, cilian murphy has done it well as kitten in breakfast on pluto. he dons the mask of patricia braden very well playing her almost like second nature. but at the end of the day, the mask falls off and reveals a weary face.

breakfast on pluto sets itself in ireland, in the middle of the catholic and protestant war raging in ireland. the story unfolds bit by bit as does the characters. but the whole story is told by kitten herself. she/he, sets out to search his true mother, the phantom lady who allegedly "got swallowed up by london". through the searching of her mother, kitten goes through alot. and by alot i mean alot. she becomes a cross-dressing bomber in the process. at one point you will be revolted by what she is doing but at the end of the film you realise that she does all this cos she yearns for closure to her life, answers. she has a brilliant mind of imagination.

cilian murphy is a marvel in this gender-bender movie. after seeing him in roles as villans in movies like batman begins and red eye, you would not expect him to churn out such a deep and almost convincing portrayal as kitten. just go watch this movie.

the going back to school for only a day is enough to remind me that school is such a painful drag. too many appearances to keep up with, projects and deadlines to meet. not that i was a student worthy of praise but going back to it, just is not appealing to me anymore. getting quickfix judgements from stares that is your own classmates, dealing with people you do not wish to have anything to deal with. so i have come to the conclusion that i am not going back to school anytime soon.

after-school activities are the ones that are worth looking forward to. its the essence of every student's life. from the planning to the the execution of it. even if it is just a simple sit down over coffee, trying to channel a very "chi-chi" vibe with the putting on of killer monster shades to hide them ugly eye bags. to the walking into shops with no intention of purchasing anything. or even a movie to add variety or posing with life-size cardboard figurines with our "idols". heh.

the movie in question today is, thank you for smoking.

a very straight-forward satire. on the american culture of smoking. its about the freedom of choice and the american political system and how at times, it can get worked up over trivial matters. 3 main forces fighting against the american system and culture. the forces are, smoking, alchohol comsumption and violence (guns and what not). so you can imagine what a nightly brawl it would be right? it is, and throw in some very good humour without the need of being slapstick and in-your-face. then the hallmark moment seeps in. how hallmark fits in? the whole getting screwed over and bouncing back due to some force of good within the person's life. that is hallmark! that's classic! so watch it for good humour and saturated satire. but be warned, it would not satisfy the religious movie-goer who has been following the hype around this movie.

Siobhan Donaghy - Overrated

she is one of my favourite debuts of 2003. this song has gotten me through alot. it still means something to me now. and i think this video compliments the song really well. its all booze parties and whole lotta late nights. don't you recognize her?

awaken abruptly by the computer bell and the phone that rang i am forced upon this seat and in front of the computer. my body has switched gears and refused me sleep. right now: i'm running on adrenalin. thanks to my two lovelies. no hard feelings tho.

so i have been deciding to do a post on music videos i really like or have taken an appreciation to. and after months of scouring youtube(oh the wonders of it!) i have compiled some music videos i really like and thought i could share it with you and you can tell me what you think.

i revert! i revert! that is all that is reverberating in my head at the moment. the sweet text that is being fed to my brains are not uninteresting and narcissistic. i get over my head sometimes with books and do not give them enough chance to actually let them grow on me like fungus. of course this fungus is not nasty and ugly to the eye.

what fungus am i referencing? this calls for inverted comas to be placed in the front and end letter of fungus. the "fungus" that is OH THE GLORY OF IT ALL. i have to admit i've had had my doubts with this memoir of sorts. but the point of doubts, gives rise to the love that will soon grow if you give it time. and i do not like the discontinuation that i sometimes overindulge in while reading a book. the discontinuation meaning the time spent not having a book in hand, a book you are currently reading. this causes a disruption in the flow and in turn, is catastrophic.

i am going to deposit my two cents now. OH THE GLORY OF IT ALL, is a memoir of the author himself. oh he is rich and belongs to high society. set in the backdrop of san francisco. prepare yourself for a journey with sean wilsey, his daily dilemmas and shortcomings. his constant battle with keeping up with appearances and battling two fronts due to a nasty divorce between his birth parents. be prepared to be frustrated with him for being to naively naive and not having the courage to break out on his own and kill his evil stepmother of sorts. i am just halfway through the book and i can't help but to give my two cents.

hope it was well worth it.

i shall revert! and not stray and not abandon!

the birth that is my day. sends around the message that an outing of sorts are in order. so the people that participated are those only of exclusivity. the date, the time was set and as usual latecoming was mandatory. but the events thereafter were tantalisingly wonderous. such is the result of spontaniety. and that is what outings should be made of.

combing the streets looking at brands that are rarely heard of around this small island. eating the food that was within our budget but all the same fulfilling. and talking the talk that was full of humour and injected with sarcasm and wit. and walking the walk that made us eventually tired and had to sojurn to the wonder that is starbucks, not actually a wonder, but to some it is. but finally realising that we were short in cash. because of the previous splurging on deserts that were almost enough to replace the carnality that is sex. so i would definitely label this day, before it ends, by and by the affair to remember.

but of course to eat something that is handmade with love is the best.

the day has is officially over. thanks to the people that made it memorable.

do not blame me for having clarity on a clear day. today just happens to be one of those days where clarity is gratification. and gratification in my jurisdiction does not come oft. see, i have labeled upon myself, like so many others have done too, an emoboy. i laugh at my own label because only the people who knows the "typer", know what i am talking about. not to exclude many who do not know me but i just had to make that reference. see for days, i've chosen to feel that i have been unhappy deep down for so long, that i am unworthy of happiness. i try to swim abreast to today's expectations but i am just not a champion swimmer. to be stuck in routine or regimentation has worn down this soul and made me even more emotional to my senses. this meaning being a prick at times and succumbing to violent bouts of happiness hence leading to the verbal suicide, that is, giving out lame jokes. but my physical attributes does not attest to my label. this meaning how i actually choose to dress and carry myself. once again only those who have seen me knows.

so the clarity that met me or embraced my soul today, was greeted with much welcome. this resulted in a euphoric sense of amusement. and i treated some friends to this amusement. i guess to stray from routine after four days does give me clarity. and i hope my friends did enjoy this amusement. i think its also the fact that i chose to clear this invisible clutter around me. so i am trying to be happy. are you trying? then no apparent sadness hits. damn. am i talking in tongues?!

OH BOY! i feel a music overload coming along. it does not help that artists i have long been following are coming up with sophomore efforts to whet our musical taste buds once again. then there is the discovering of artists that have always been there but not dug up by you. case in point, french chantueses, keren ann (as in the above picture) and camille. coming back for more are, charlotte martin with her new single stromata and a newly added tune to siobhan donaghy's myspace, which you guys can check out at myspace.com. the better friendster.

let's talk about charlotte martin for awhile. her new single stromata, speaks volumes about her upcoming record. it is highly experimental and full of sounds overlapping her piano playing. she has finally freed herself from an artist's imprisonment of musical freedom. this meaning she has left her label RCA Records and set up her own and has wedded her producer. i feel now, her sound is more her, the kind of sound i'd been waiting from her. for a slice of this, check out her myspace. www.myspace.com/charlottemartin

just a quick rollover of events. actually not much rolled over but the less exciting is the more enticing. and somehow this beginning of a sentence to an entry seems dry and uninteresting.

quick judgements should be a punishable crime. just because you do not judge a book by its cover. and its so sad that some of my countrymen are just like that. they choose to see the smaller picture no matter how big the big picture is. incoherently, some of countrymen just do not get it. so what of one chooses the lifestyle he chooses, so what of one acts the way he acts, that does not mean that that person is that.

love is a price we have to all pay.
